1. Run Etcher with Elevated Privileges (sudo)
macOS Big Sur has strict security settings that can block Etcher from performing raw disk access. Running via terminal often bypasses this.
- Close Etcher.
- Open Terminal.
- Run the following command:
- sudo /Applications/balenaEtcher.app/Contents/MacOS/balenaEtcher
- Enter your password and attempt the flash again.
2. Grant Full Disk Access
Allowing Etcher to bypass security restrictions can resolve the writer process failing.
- Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy.
- Select Full Disk Access in the left sidebar.
- Click the + button and add balenaEtcher.app from your Applications folder.
